What's in my St. Patrick's Day binder?

Incorporating fun activities into your homeschool plans is very important for keeping the boredom "Ho-hums" away. Here's just a quick flip through the goodies I've been collecting for St. Patrick's Day. I hope you see something you'd like to add to your own lesson plans.

Homeschool Curriculum: Goodwill Haul

Wow! We are really on a roll. My daughter helped me create a video showcasing the homeschool curriculum goodies I found at our local Goodwill store.

The purpose of the video is to show new and veteran homeschoolers what quality curriculum can be found at local thrift stores. Lets face it, a lot of homeschooling families function on a tight budget. Many are operating on one income, while spending more of that one income purchasing books and materials for their homeschool needs. So, we all need to cut prices wherever and whenever possible.

In the Homeschool Curriculum: Goodwill Haul video, I've tried to mention the name of each book along with its author, illustrator, and/or publisher so that in the event you see something you like, you'll be able to search for it on the web, and so I'd be careful of copyright laws. Now, I know watching someone showing off what they bought can get a tad boring, so we've included some funny bloopers at the end. Get ready to giggle or bust a gut laughing. Tissues might even need to be handy.

We had a fun time putting this video together and I'm doubling up on the purpose of it to include it as a S.T.E.M. (technology) lesson for my daughter. I could probably count it as practice for public speaking, as well. So, we hope you'll find something of interest and are encouraged to stop by your own local Goodwill or other thrift store to check to see what goodies you might find at a discount for you own homeschool.

Happy Homeschooling!

Disclaimers:

I have not and do not expect to receive any monetary gain from Goodwill Industries by the mentioning of Goodwill Industries in this blog nor in the video. This blog and linked video is for educational purposes only. Thank you.

Apple Tree Homeschool Academy Room Tour

We've been busier than normal around our homeschool these past few weeks. This is our fourth year homeschooling my daughter. Personally, I have grown as a homeschool mom and teacher over these last few years, and I finally feel confident enough to start passing along my own tips, tricks and advice, instead of simply re-posting others' good advice.

For quite awhile, I've been wanting to start making YouTube videos sharing our own homeschooling journey, and so I finally took the leap. We now have a YouTube trailer video introducing our family, and this past week I finally broke down and made a video of our homeschooling space. I tried to highlight ideas I've used in our "classroom" that may be of some interest to other homeschoolers. It's my hope, you'll be able to find some inspiration in our own homeschooling space.

Please, enjoy the homeschool room tour.

Accomplishments and Teacher Gift Idea

Accomplishing Tasks

The last few days (and wee hours of the nights), I've spent updating the look of Apple Tree Homeschool Academy's blog and learning more about the blog features here on Blogger. I'm so excited to have improved the information on the right side bar and am looking forward to featuring some additional fellow homeschooling bloggers and other helpful links in the near future.

It's All in the Name

While contemplating a formal name for our homeschool, I came up the the bright idea of turning the blog into a family project with contributions from my older, married children and their families. They will be homeschooling the grandchildren as they get older, and each of my grown kids and their spouses has unique niches that I think would be great additions to this blog. So after opinion gathering, we decided to rename the blog "Apple Tree Homeschool Academy" after the formal name we adopted for our family's homeschool.

Why "Apple Tree Academy?"

We are considering our homeschool name to include the extended family as well, thus incorporating the idea of a family tree into the name, eventual logo, website banner, etc. I've always loved apples as they are a traditional symbol for teaching and education. I've, also, always loved a tree of some sort as part of a classroom decor. We have one for decor in our own homeschool room.
